The Micheli family is from the province of Massa and Carrara, in Tuscany. Chef Sergio Micheli was raised in Genoa and the surrounding Italian Riviera region. Portofino, within Liguria, is a picturesque Italian fishing village and resort. It is famous for its narrow harbour and historical association with celebrity visitors. The extended Micheli family still resides in northern Italy.
In 1993, three generations of Micheli chefs joined forces as their son Richard, a recent graduate of the famed Culinary Institute of America, began his work at the Portofino. He has combined his skills from Culinary School with his father’s expertise to bring to Portofino’s patrons a unique dining experience.
